What is Drone Soccer?
Drone soccer is a K-12 workforce-development program disguised as a competitive sport. Students who complete the program have built, coded, repaired, and flown a real aircraft — and at age 16 can be seen by college scouts through LeagueOS. An innovative engaging program with direct college-recruitment pathway.
The game, was designed after the broomstick game of Quidditch from Harry Potter. Starting in South Korea, Drone Sports brought the game to the US in 2020 with equipment designed specifically for education. Students assemble the drones using basic building techniques (nuts, bolts, zipties, and plugs). Once the drone is together, they learn to fly and join into teams of five. One of 5 the 5 drones is marked by flags. This is the "Stryker" and the only one allowed to score points for the team. Their job is to go through a hoop on the far end of the arena. Everyone else is trying to prevent the other team's Stryker from coming through their hoop. There are three sets in a match, each set is three minutes long. This means, for three minutes, ten drones are in a cage smashing into each other trying to score points.
